CHAPTER 8

MARKETING: WHERE TO LOCATE MY BUSINESS

From the information I have gathered while looking for information on my market and my customer, I have also come across data about the location of my future business.

I will organize this information, in such a way that, when the time comes, I will find it easier to choose the best of locations for my business.

Here are the points I will consider in locating my business:

1.  List the various places available to start my business: mark them on my map, this will show these locations in relation to the locations of my competitors.

2.  List the various qualities of each location:

- Dimension of each location

- Cost of each location in comparable figures, per square foot, per month.

- Is there any parking near by? Free or metered?

- How is the traffic, pedestrian or by vehicle? Light, medium or heavy?

- How accessible is each location? In a shopping mall, on the corner of a street, on a one-way street? Can trucks unload easily in the back? in the front?

- How easy is it for customers to get to my business? Compare each location.

- What side of the street are these sites located on? Choose the sunny side of the street when possible.

- Before I move in, do I need to undertake major improvements at these sites? Compare.

3. I then must compare the better sites against my competitors' locations before choosing.

On the next page is a sample worksheet that I will use for each location and then I will use this information to evaluate each location in relation to my competitors' sites.
